Rank algorithm update from google weeded out a lot of good or bad websites, the reason cited is that google wanted to provide more relevant results, on official google blog it is estimated 11.8% search results will be affected by this update, in another word, google thinks about 12% of it’s search results are really bad and need to manipulated. The update was initiated more than a year ago, maybe that’s why some of my ranks dropped out of first 10 pages, the good thing is that those keywords promoted by content rich links are not affected, and a few of them even gained a few positions, it’s safe to say that old way of link building is doomed.
Now what on earth is plain link building and how do people do it? a lot of marketing companies did and are doing the plain link building, they add your links to those linking websites without context, these websites will only be updated when new links are being added, it’s safe to assume all of them are trash, we call these sites link spamming sites. The latest google update will definitely downgrade most if not all of these sites, any links on them will be affected too.
A few real world examples will help to explain what I said. In the very beginning, I didn’t know better, I started with this keyword, slip hook, at that time almost every body was doing plain linking campaign, almost all the sites I got link from had too many links, and those sites had only links, no real content at all. This strategy worked in the beginning, eventually the keyword could be found on first page, the party was over when google updated it’s algorithm. Now let’s look at another keyword, chain pullers, we promoted this keyword with articles and blog posts, not too many plain links have been built, the rank for this keyword is making me real happy. Now contextual links win the battle, then what? Actually this is all about content, when you create unique and quality content, your rank will improve over time, since search engines are another kind of readers. As far as SEO concerned, creating quality content and article marketing is what we have to do to get great result. Remember content is king, you just need to create content, publish and share with people, promote your business with the content, your effort will reward you handsomely in the end.
