Rank algorithm update from google weeded out a lot of good or bad websites, in the name of providing more relevant search results for it’s users, on official google blog it is estimated 11.8% search results will be affected by this update, in plain English, almost 12% of google search results are useless or of low quality. They planned and started the update about one year ago, no wonder I saw a few of my keywords’ ranks dropped like a rock, but almost all the ranks promoted by articles and blog posts were not affected, a few of these keywords ranked better than ever, it’s safe to say that old way of link building is doomed.
What is old way of link building any way? a large percentage of SEO firms will do this, they add your links to those linking websites without context, the only updates on those websites are the new links, almost all of them are garbage, we call these sites link spamming sites. Now google algorithm probably will weed out these sites, any links on them will be affected too.
A few real world examples will help to explain what I said. In the very beginning, I didn’t know better, I needed to rank the keyword, load bars, it was old way of link building all the way, lately I figured that every site in the campaign had way too many links, worst yet, those sites had no content at all. In the beginning, the ranking of the keyword in question rise pretty fast, eventually the keyword could be found on first page, the honeymoon lasted until google changed it’s mind. Here is another keyword, chain puller , we promoted this keyword with articles and blog posts, not too many plain links have been built, now we have really good ranking for this keyword. Old and outdated linking campaign lost to content linking, what’s next? Actually this is all about content, as long as you dole out high quality content, not only people will love to read your stuff, so do the search engines. I got nice ranking for a few realy nice keywords now. Now you can see, blog marketing with great content is the way to go. Remember content is king, you just need to create content, publish and share with people, in the mean time advertise your business with your content, your effort will reward you handsomely in the end. One thing you can do for your blogs is to install twitter tools, get a twitter account and API keys, link your blog to twitter, then make sure every new post will post a new tweet, it’s real easy and useful, it’s a big loss if you don’t use this tool.
