Beginning early this year, certain search engine made some changes to their search ranking, in the name of providing more relevant search results for it’s users, google engineers published blog post which indicated there were 11.8% organic search results will be affected, in another word, google thinks about 12% of it’s search results are really bad and need to manipulated. The update was initiated more than a year ago, and recently I see some of my ranks were lowered considerably, the good thing is that those keywords promoted by content rich links are not affected, a few of these keywords ranked better than ever, it’s obvious that linking campaign the old way is the thing of past, probably due to link spamming sites being downgraded by google.
What is old way of link building any way? a lot of marketing companies did and are doing the plain link building, they will get links from any websites which accept adding links, the content on those sites will never be updated, almost all of them are garbage, we call these sites link spamming sites. New google algorithm most likely will punish these link spammers, any links on them will be affected too.
Maybe a few examples will make it clear. It was quite some time ago, I needed to rank the keyword, Web Sling Shackle, it was old way of link building all the way, almost all the sites I got link from had too many links, and the worst thing is that those sites are linking sites only and had no content, not even crap content. In the beginning, the ranking of the keyword in question rise pretty fast, eventually the keyword could be found on first page, the party was over when google updated it’s algorithm. Here is another keyword, chain pullers, most back links for this keyword are from articles and posts, not too many plain links have been built, the rank for this keyword is making me real happy. So contextual link wins this time, what about future? It all boils down to content, so if you create great content, your rank will improve over time, since search engines are another kind of readers. You may think there are already too many blogs out there, it’s not true, there will never be too many good blogs, take a look at this blog, baby strollers , in the beginning I just post to it casually, lately I added nice stuff left and right, now it can even rank the highly competitive keywords. As we can see, quality article marketing is much better than plain link building. Remember content is king, you just need to create content, get people to enjoy and share your stuff, and put your keywords in the context you’re good to go, as long as you don’t stop doing this, you will win over customers and search engines. Whatever you do, you will need persistence and patience, nothing will automatically improve overnight, be it your business or search rankings, now all we need to do is to share our love for creating and sharing nice content and not to worry about the ranking all the time.
